About the Author
Boris Vian was a novelist, poet, jazz trumpeter, singer, translator, critic, actor, inventor, and engineer. He was the emblematic figure of the postwar Paris cultural milieu: friend to Camus, de Beauvoir, and Sartre (until Sartre seduced his wife); the Parisian champion of Duke Ellington and Miles Davis; the inspiration for and mentor to Serge Gainsbourg; the French translator of Raymond Chandler. Vian, who had suffered a pulmonary edema in 1956, died of cardiac arrest in 1959, at age thirty-nine, during a screening of a Hollywood adaptation of one of his novels, outraged at the American interpretation of his novel, set in America, where he had never been. His last words were reportedly: "These guys are supposed to be American? My ass!" Stanley Chapman was a British architect, designer, writer, and translator, most notably of Vian and Raymond Queneau. He was the founder of Outrapo and a member of Oulipo, the Coll�ge de 'Pataphysique (of which Vian was also a member), and the Lewis Carroll Society. He died in 2009.

I must say I first watched the film before reading this book...which I'm sure I'm not supposed to. But I thoroughly enjoyed them both. Very surreal story with funny and interesting wordplay.Looking forward to reading more from Boris Vian!

If you like weird stuff, maybe you will think this is good. This book is bizarre, as it was meant to be. That appeals to many people; I am not one of them, but that is me. The French is very, very hard for the student of French.

I enjoyed this book so much. I read a lot of business books, and this one was so entertaining, suspenseful, deep, full of lessons - all in one. O, I forgot hilarious. I finished the book, and started reading it from page 1 again. I started checking out the author's other books. I'm currently reading Million Dollar Habits. His books do have a tendency to have misleading titles. Although I haven't finished reading Million Dollar Habits, they are really about an outlook of life that serves you well. Really enjoying that book too.

Interesting and fun to read but dated and of limited interest

Rober Ringer's book, Winning Through Intimidation, was first published in 1973 and quickly became a best seller. As Ringer himself states, the title is misleading in that the book's true intent is to help people avoid being intimadated by other. The book is written in an entertaining fashion and sprinkled with cartoons. However many of the ideas have been covered better in recent years and Ringer largely focuses on his experience in real estate as the basis for his observations. Thus I only give it a three star rating.

The main point that Ringer makes is what he calls the Theory of Reality. Reality is not what you wish it to be or assume it to be, but is the way things actually are. The biggest cause of failure in business and life is our inability to recognize reality.

Ringer also poses four other "cornerstone ideas. (1) The Theory of Relatively. To decide on a course of action you should weigh all factors in a relative light. For example, honest is relative; some people are more honest than others. (2) The Theory of Relevance. No matter how interesting somethng is what is important is how relevant is it--how important is it to you. (3) The Morality Theory. Aim high and move fast because life is short. (4) The Ice Ball Theory. Don't take yourself too seriouisly because everything dies, including the earth that will become an ice ball many million years from now.

I think the most useful point Ringer makes is to behave like a tortoise and not a hare. Aim for the long term success, not the short term one. A fun book and somewhat useful. A quick read if you skip over the stories he tells about his real estate dealings.

Perfect Intro to Proficient Journey

Perfect Intro to Proficient book. I've seen training videos and followed along but this book was the home run. Not only did I learn about all the moving parts in a logical manner, I also enjoyed the nuggets of what a experiences DSC IT pro is thinking as he goes through the process of learning DSC.

The author was very keen on making sure that he was aware of the tripping points that a new comer would have in taking up DSC and pointed out all of the potential stumbling blocks along the way.

Bipolar and MOS Analog Integrated Circuit Design

The book has all the basic building blocks that you need to know for DSP design or a transceiver design. I found the sections on clock recovery (e.g. PLL) and filtering (e.g. switched-capacitor filters) particularly useful. Each section consists of the fundamental theories, explanations of the circuit building blocks, and design procedures/examples. In addition, many of the background theories in circuit designs such as OPAMPS, bias circuits, and basic gain stages etc. can be found in the book as very good basic references. Overall it's one of the must have book for analog circuit designers.

A real treasure; the best !

I ran into another book by Alan B. Grebene when I was in the library. I immediately understood that I have found a real treasure. Next day I ordered the newest book by Grebene. Even though it is a 1984 book, it describes all the important building blocks of analog electronics with great insight and lots of knowledge.

Its the single most complete treatment of BJT integrated circuits, that you will ever get in modern text books of today. It reminded me of Shilling and Taub 30 years old classic on Switching Circuit Design. A total encyclopedia of all things analog, but a comprehensive look on switching circuits.
